MySQL ported

Submitted by Peter Speybrouck on Wed, 2007-01-17 00:42.

Just wanted to inform you (as you may have read on osnews already) that I have been porting mysql in the past few days.

In the end mysql just needed a few edits and some missing prototypes to get it to compile. The rest was just waiting till it finished compiling.
I had to make my own version of "ps" since skyos did not seem to have that and mysql was looking for it. It ended up to be 40 lines of code...

The mysql client is working fine, this image shows the result of an simple query on a remote server:

Java on SkyOS

Submitted by Peter Speybrouck on Wed, 2007-01-10 13:09.

Some time ago, I ported the Jikes 1.22 java compiler to SkyOS, but it was not really usefull without a java virtual machine to acually run the java programs.
Since most of these virtual machines depend on GNU Classpath, it was obvious that classpath needed to be ported as well.

Registrar Service.

Robert is working hard to bring us another cool feature - Registrar. Why yet another service instead of plain old registry? I'm not going to get into details, I'll let Robert explain:

It's insolated, per user and allowes manual configuration using the system manager plugin. A service is just an application with which you can communicate using the desktop communication service. (yeah, you need a service to communicate with a service ;) ). Anyway, a service is isolated in its own address space, can easily be enabled/disabled, doesn't require special linking with your applications and can easily be updated without affecting applications using it. (no re-compilation, ....)

Card Games returning...

Submitted by Chris Marshall on Mon, 2006-11-27 21:50.

After a long time the Card Games are returning... I am doing all the development in SkyOS now and after moving the code over had to make several changes.

The initial changes are complete and SkyCribbage and SkyFreeCell build without any issues, however they do not function correctly because the mouse functionality appears to have changed since they were last build.

Once these issues are fixed a test version will be released.

GTK+ port coming along nicely.

Submitted by Tomasz Dominikowski on Fri, 2006-11-24 17:18.

Phew, build 6669 is out of the door. Robert is of course not stopping and yes, he has ported GTK+ 2.10.6. There were drawing issues and all the usual unpleasent things connected with such a feat, but there's some hope:

RobertSze: hmm, interesting. The new GTK/Cairo build is damn fast. GTK apps work at full speed now, at least it looks so when starting the GTK tests. Not sure about applications like abiword yet
